Directing the power of a machine to the right place is task of the operator. Depending on the working process, the conducted machines can generate vibrations, which are affecting the operator.
The EU-wide valid work safety directive 2002/44/EC has been implemented in all member countries as national safety regulation. For instance as Noise and Vibration work safety regulation (LärmVibrations-ArbSchV) in Germany. According to that, each employer is responsible to ensure that employees are not exposed to too high stress due to vibrations.
Depending on the area of exposure of the vibrations, two types can be distinguished:
Hand-arm vibrations are caused by vibrations, which are transmitted through the palm and fingers into hands and arms. Employees whose hands are regularly exposed to vibrations, may experience injuries of hand and arm tissue. The proper measurement solution helps to detect whether acivities are risky.
Whole-body vibrations are caused by vibrations, which are transmitted by machines and vehicles at the workspace via the seat or feet. These occur frequently while working in the field, e.g. in agriculture, at construction and in querries, as well as on the road in trucks and other commercial vehicles, at sea in small speedboats and in the air in some helicopters.
Whole-Body vibrations are not limited to sitting employees but may also occur e.g. while standing on a concrete crusher.
